夜桜への思い
1997年 ラテンの国の音楽”ＳＡＬＳＡ”と巡り会い
プエルトリコ人のベーシストと結婚しました
海外を旅して、暮らしも知り ”日本”の穏やかさ、人の優しさ、
安心に歩ける綺麗な街、素晴らしいおもてなし
こんな美しい国に生まれ育った私は”生まれながら幸運なんだ”と強く思いました
その日本を象徴する花は”桜”ですね
春に優しく微笑んでくれる花
だからでしょうか、
私は桜、特に光に照らされた夜桜が大好きです
日本人として、そんな日本の美しさ、優しさを伝えたくて
夜桜を立ち上げました

「Thoughts in Yozakura」
In 1997 I fell in love with the salsa music of Latin America
and married a Puerto Rican bassist.
I traveled the world and gained life experience.
I came to see myself as extremely fortunate for having been raised in Japan
among the safe streets of beautiful towns,
and with the values of peace, kindness, and selfless service.
Sakura, the pink blossoms that sweetly signal spring,
are a symbol of Japan.
That’s why, I love cherry blossoms,
especially the night cherry blossoms illuminated by light．
As a Japanese, I want to convey the beauty and kindness of Japan

禅布を制作しようと思ったキッカケ
世界には、たくさん幸せ一杯の食卓がありますよね
各国それぞれに美しい暖かなテーブルの上
愛国心が表面に現れるのは ほとんどがスポーツ観戦だと思います
偶然ですが ”家にいよう” ”StayHome” が当たり前になった現在
家の中でも国を楽しみませんか？
日本料理ならば、日本の国旗の上に並べてみましょう
どんな国の国旗も作れますよ！

「Why make these placemats? Dining around the World」
Imagine an elaborate feast spread out
over the dining room table, with every country’s cuisine.
Where love of country isn’t limited to spectators of a sports game.
In the age of the pandemic, and orders to stay home
why not enjoy the world’s cuisine and culture
from your own dining room table?
Any nation’s flag can be made to order!
禅布にこめた想い
国旗ランチョンマットを ”禅布” と名付けました
＜禅布＞ ”禅”の布の上に料理を置く
世界中が人が知っている「禅」という字を使いました
色鮮やかな着物の残布を裁断し1枚ずつ作ります
その時、国旗に込められた”意味”を深く想います
日本の国旗は白地に”赤の丸”
何てシンプルで目立つのでしょうか
世界各国の人に布を通じて
幸せと、平和と、穏やかな心を伝えたい
それが日本人 けあき が禅布にこめた想いです
–English translation–
「Thoughts in Zenpu」
“Zenpu” are the name I gave to the national flag lunchmats,
the first part of which comes from the Buddhist “Zen” practice.
I cut and create each piece using vibrant colored leftover kimono fabric,
all the while thinking deeply about the meaning of each flag.
How simple yet striking is the red circle on white of the Japanese flag.
Through my work with fabric, I hope to share the peace, happiness,
and serenity of Japan with the people of the world.
